Waste in Amsterdam, in short

Almost all household waste at SPOT goes into the underground containers on the street around Hondsrugpark. You drop your bag in the hatch and a large tank below the pavement collects it, so there are no wheelie bins in the hallways.

What goes where

  • General waste (Rest): everything that cannot be separated — tied up in a bag.
  • Paper & card: flattened boxes and paper in the paper container.
  • Glass: bottles and jars (no lids) in the glass container.
  • Textiles: clean clothes and shoes, bagged, in the textile container.

Use the map below to find your nearest container for each type.
